The Four Phases of Methadone Treatment:
Phase I: Stabilization Phase
The patient achieves medical stability, and completes mental, physical, and emotional assessments. The counselor and patient work together to create the most successful treatment plan based on the patients needs.
Phase II: Commitment Phase
The patient demonstrates his/her investment in treatment and commitment to recovery.
Phase III: Rehabilitation Phase
The patient is achieving bio-psycho-social balance and stability in the primary areas of adult functioning.
Phase IV: Decision Point
Once the patient has established a reasonable degree of stability and balance in the primary areas of adult functioning life, a decision is in order: to remain on a stable dose of methadone for an indefinite period of time (Medical Maintenance) or begin to taper off the methadone.
